So, I'm hot about more then one topic tonight, but I can really only vent about one of these topics, since I am -still- not sure who is reading my posts. If you catch my drift.Over the past couple weeks I've been a regular watching the local news. I'm not sure why? It's not like I will be or have been living here that long to really care about what's going on, but I still tend to turn it on none-the-less. Anyway, you may have heard about the kids wearing American Flags on Cinco De Mayo? And the teachers made them turn their shirts inside out? Ha, yeah, that was local news for me. Go figure.
But, along the same lines, I saw where a child had drawn an American Flag and wrote "God Bless America" on it and the art teacher told her she couldn't draw or write that because it was "offensive". I'm sorry, but seriously?! We live in America and no matter what you say, we are allowed to take pride in this country. I know what you're thinking...but, she was probably saying that it was offensive because the child had written "God Bless America". Well, I'm a Christian and I'm pretty positive "under God" is still in the Pledge of Allegiance and "In God We Trust" is still on our currency. Again, I know what you're thinking...but what about separation of church and state? Well, I'm sorry, still, I see no problem with it at all.
Then again, this is coming from a girl who's class prayed before the school day started and we said the Pledge of Allegiance every day. We even took turns going to the office to say it over the intercom to the entire school! I looked forward to my turn every time it came around. Of course, that was back in the day. But, was it really that far back in the day?? No, it wasn't. I graduated in 2006, and I think we stopped doing these "churchly" things when I was in, errr, about 6th grade. So, I guess it was about 10 years ago, but still!
Is it just me? Is it just because I am a Christian and the wife of a Marine that I feel this way? I just have so much pride for this nation and I am proud that I am a Christian. Then again, all of us have our own opinion, this is just mine. :)

Try being from Arizona (I'm not there currently-military obviously!)... the SB1070 has caused quite the riot, hasn't it! I totally agree with you about everything you said, and not it's not just because you're a Christian Marine Wife (me too!) but you are an American, who believes in the true foundations of this country. =]
Goodness. I'm no longer a Christian, I don't know what I believe in and I haven't for quite some time now. I don't think children should be forced to pray to the Christian God if they don't believe...but I also don't think that anyone should be punished if they DO believe! It's an art project! How is that offensive?!
Many of my relatives that I'm close to are very religious, they know of my lack of faith, and they tell me all the time that they pray for me. I do NOT find that offensive! That's a compliment, that someone loves me enough to pray for me. I cannot believe they told a child that the saying "God Bless America" is an insult. Nothing could be further from the truth. My school still plays the song "God Bless America" at almost every football game, and I love it!
Blah. Wanted to add my agnostic 2 cents of agreeing with you.

I am a new follower. Let me just say that I love you! I can't even be started on all the political ridiculousness that because I would never end but I am still so upset and angry over the Flag t-shirts and art project and the Chicago girls basketball team being forced to quit a tournament because it was hosted in AZ. I think the country's falling apart. Its sad. Anyways... Your blog is fabulous! Linking you up under my Marine blogs!
